Swatch x Omega Bioceramic Moonswatch Mission to Mars SO33R100 T150523
Omega and Swatch teamed up for the first time to create the MoonSwatch watch. This is a quartz battery-powered watch designed based on Omega’s famous Speedmaster Moonwatch model, which NASA astronauts used when landing Apollo 11 on the moon in 1969. And from day one hit the market, its reputation flew as far as a spaceship to the moon.
MoonSwatch: When Omega and Swatch Combine
For those who don’t know the source: Omega is a watch brand under the Swatch group. The fact that Omega and Swatch combine watchmaking is no different from the handshake between Balenciaga and Gucci (both under the Kering group). It is much more advantageous to compare the combination of Fendi and Versace, two brands belonging to two competing corporations.
However, the cooperation between the luxury brand and the market brand of the Swatch group is still enough to make watch enthusiasts excited.
Details of the watch MoonSwatch
Mission to Mars. The clock points to Mars in red and white. The decorative hands on the dials were borrowed from the Alaska Project, the forerunner of the modern Speedmaster line, when NASA was still in secret discussions with Omega about designing watches for astronauts.
The MoonSwatch is made of BioCeramic, a blend of high-tech porcelain and castor oil-based resin, which is considered more environmentally friendly than petroleum-based plastic. This material is lighter when compared to the metal material of the original model.
The movement is powered by a quartz battery instead of a mechanical movement like the original Moonwatch, housed in a 42 mm case and water resistant to a depth of 30 meters like the original model.
The dial emulates the original design but incorporates the Swatch logo and uses many fresh color codes.
In this tribute to Mars, the fiery red tones contrast with the bright white dial and VELCRO © bracelet. The chronograph seconds hand is red, while both the hour and sub-minute hands have a unique red hand with a playful spaceship shape. All dials carry the OMEGA X SWATCH branding, as well as the iconic Speedmaster emblem and the new MoonSwatch emblem.
With fresh colors, this model is not only for men, but also for women because of their fresh design.
